Smersh is a duo consisting of sound engineer and musician Mike Mangino (or Mangino) and Chris Shepard, who began releasing cassettes in 1981. They never played live, but their spontaneous creativity became their distinctive feature. Smersh is one of the most original underground formations, along with Cabaret Voltaire and Coil.
